Getting Indexed in search engines

All Internet Marketers - whether newbie or seasoned - all need to get their websites indexed in the top three major search engines - Google, Yahoo and MSN - quickly and effectively. For larger websites the task is even more difficult, and there are a few effective techniques that can help in the indexing process. Of course patienceand planning are vital in this process.

Small one or two page websites, also known as sales pages or mini websites, are the easiest and quickest to get indexed in the three major search engines. Almost anyone can succeed with a high probability by just manually submitting through each search engines submission process. Websites with a large number of pages will often get only their first page indexed ; therefore it requires effective planning and a little bit of patience to get completely indexed.

Effective Planning Strategies for getting indexed are as follows.

(1) Prior to submitting your websites to the search engines, plan out the basic website structure so that search engines robots can easily navigate through your website and index each page. That can be done by

(a) Having a sitemap linked from you main index page that thinks through out your website.

(b) Ensuring that each page is linked together, not just back to the main index page. This interlinking is vital for easy spidering of your website.

(c) Building and submitting a Google Sitemap.

(2) Test your websites design and structure using Google Sitemap Software such as GSiteCrawler (Freeware) that will try and index your entire website. If you are unsuccessful building a index of your entire website, then make necessary design changes in order to index your entire website. If the software can not index your entire website, how will the search engine robots index your entire website?

(3) Instead of manually submitting your websites, submit your website first to directories and establish link partnerships. This will improve how often your website is crawled by the search engines and how fast your website is indexed. Also, when establishing link partnership and directories higher the Google Page Rank, the faster your website will be indexed and how often your website is crawled.

(4) Lastly, Patience. It takes time for the search engine to find your website. Search engines will find your website through your linking partners and then start crawling through your website and absorbing all the information contained, and then finally your website will start appearing in the search engine result pages (SERPs).


Search Engine Optimization for Google

Google accounts for approximately 50-90% of search engine traffic. On sites that I use or create, this number seems to average around 75-85% of total search engine traffic. Based on these numbers, I feel it is better to focus on optimizing your web site for Google first.
